The toponymy of Kez

The name is originated from hydronym: Кез [Kez] – river in the basin of Cheptsa river, left tributary of the Vyatka river; it is a de-etymologized toponym, probably, the origin is connected with the appellative кезь ˂ кӧзьы [(udm.) kez’ < kӧz’y] ‘a small stone, gravel, pebbles’.

The village was settled in 1898 in connection with the construction of the railway Perm – Kotlas and building the railway station [Atamanov 2015: 377-379].
